John 4 – Outcast Woman

Story Outline

Living Water (1-12) – well & water > Jesus sat down next to a well and began a conversation with a Samaritan woman. They discussed the right way to worship God.

Drawings: Jesus talked to a woman beside a well (well & water). He told her about Living Water (fountain).

Spirit & Truth (13-24) – Jesus, branch, dove > Jesus said one day, Jews and Samaritans will worship the same God the same way: in Truth and in the Holy Spirit.

Drawings: Jesus (man & cross) said one day everyone will worship God (branch) in the Holy Spirit (dove).

Yahweh’s Will (25-34) – table, bread, cup, heart, crown > The woman believed in Jesus and left him to tell her village. The disciples arrived and offered Jesus some food. Jesus said his nourishment is to fulfill God’s will.

Drawings: The woman believed Jesus (heart & crown). Jesus’ food is fulfilling God’s will (table, bread, & cup).

Plant & Harvest (35-42) – soil, plant, roots, wheat > The woman’s whole village believed in Jesus. He said their faith was like planting seeds and gathering a harvest.

Drawings: The woman’s simple faith (soil, plant, and roots) led to her village’s faith harvest (wheat bundle).

Discipleship Activities

  • Worship > Praise God for who he is and what he has done.
  • Pray > Pray for yourself, family, friends, enemies, and all nations.
  • Listen > Listen to the story.
  • Draw > Draw the story.
  • Practice > Use the drawings to tell the story in your own words.
  • Create > Create your own drawings/illustrations for the story.
  • Discuss > Discuss the meaning of this story with a friend or group.
  • Learn > Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you. What does he want you to learn?
  • Share > Ask the Holy Spirit if there’s anyone you know who needs to hear this story.
  • Abide > Rest in the Holy Spirit, enjoy his friendship, and listen to his voice.
