
Temple Cleansing Story in John 2
Story Walkthrough
Sacrifice Scam (13-14) – Jesus witnessed salesmen making a profit on pilgrims who were visiting the Jerusalem temple. They overcharged the pilgrims who bought animals for burnt offerings required by Law.
Drawings: The salesmen made a profit (coins) at the temple (temple) selling animals (sheep) for offerings.
Zealous Son (15-17) – Jesus was furious. He drove out the scammers, fulfilling the Psalm 69:9 prophecy.
Drawings: Jesus (man & cross) made a whip (whip) and drove the salesmen (table & coins) out of the temple.
Resurrection Promise (18-22) – The Jews demanded proof of Jesus’ authority. Jesus said if they destroyed the temple, he would rebuild it in three days. The “temple” was his body: his death and resurrection.
Drawings: Jesus foretold these leaders would crucify him (cross), and he would rise again (empty tomb).
Shallow Trust (23-25) – Many people believed in Jesus, but their faith was false. They rejected him later.
Drawings: The people believed (shining heart) in this moment. But they would stop believing soon (chains).
